Dogs communicate in remarkably nuanced language. Unfortunately, when it comes to recognizing the subtle signals of dogs, most of us resemble a traveler in a new country with nothing but a phrase book as a translator. We just don’t comprehend much of their language.
Dog Latin can help.
The experienced staff members of Dog Latin Dog Training and Behavior Consulting continually strive to put into practice the latest research into canine behavioral science and the language of dogs. We help people communicate with dogs, shape positive behaviors, and build behavior patterns.
Now, with our new consulting service, Dog Latin can help your shelter, rescue group, walking company, or dog-friendly workplace become a more positive place for dogs and their people.
Over the last half century or so, dogs’ lives have changed dramatically. As the human population has grown and stretched geographically, the love we share for dogs has grown, and so have our expectations of them. Dogs wind up in situations beyond their ability to cope, without the tools needed to navigate new environments. Too many are still labeled “bad” and, as a result, are relinquished to rescue organizations and shelters.
The famed animal trainer Bob Bailey explains the problem this way: Training often fails because people expect too much of the animal and too little of themselves. Education is the solution.
In addition to working with individual family dogs, Dog Latin’s certified trainers and behavior consultants have wide-ranging experience in sheltering, including hands-on support and behavioral assessment of dogs in large municipal shelters; opening municipal shelters and managing staff; assessing dogs during large-scale puppy mill rescues; and working with internationally rescued dogs. They can put that experience to work for you, with services including:
· Establishing behavior departments
· Generating standards of practice and operating procedures
· Implementing behavior modification and training plans
· Reviewing and recommending common behavior language
· Advising on adoption policies, procedures, and events
· Advising on behavioral euthanasia
· Educating staff and volunteers
· Reducing stress in dog populations
· Generating behavior support content and resources
Please send us an email so we can discuss your organization’s specific needs. Fees are based on client needs and your project’s scope.
